Citizens in the Center School District will not be able to vote for Board of Education members this year.
“We had two Board members whose terms were up,” district spokesperson Kelly Wachel wrote in an e-mail. “Beverly Cunningham’s three-year term ended. And Julie Mattson’s 3-year term ended. Beverly refiled and then we only had one person file for Julie’s seat. His name is Charles Quinn. So, Beverly and Charles will fill the two open seats and no election is required.”
According to Missouri State statute, when the number of candidates matches the number of vacant positions, their names do not go on the ballot. This law is intended to save money for the district, which otherwise would have to foot the bill for the election.
