Voters in the Olathe School District will have one choice to make in the April general election. Two candidates are vying for one open seat, while two incumbents have re-filed and are running without opposition.
Brent A. McCune and Carl Walston are competing for Position 3. The incumbents are Amy Martin (Position 5) and Mike Poland (Position 6).
So far, none have completed the KC Education Enterprise candidate survey.
Three candidates have Facebook campaign pages: Martin, McCune and Walston.
The two running for the contested seat each have campaign websites: McCune and Walston.
And the district has posted profiles of all four candidates.
School board members are citizens who volunteer without pay to determine the policies the superintendent uses to administer the district. The superintendent works for them, and they are responsible for tasks such as long-range planning, establishing the salaries and benefits of certified teachers, approving the annual budget and calling elections for tax levies and bond proposals.
Sample ballots for the Olathe school board race are available from the Johnson County Election Office.
Elections will take place Tuesday, April 2, on both sides of the state line in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
