October School Board Reports — Week 1

Four local school boards met last week.

Kansas

Bonner Springs/Edwardsville

Highlights:

  • Routine responsibilities of governance

Olathe School District

Highlights:

  • Heard a report on enrollment (important, because state funding is based on these figures)
  • Heard report on construction projects funded by the sale of school bond debt approved by voters
  • Hired a real estate broker to assist the district in selling its Millcreek Center property
  • Approved revisions to district policies governing a range of topics such as “Illness/Bereavement Leave Reimbursement Retirement Benefit,” “Food Service Management” and “Release of Student Records”
  • Received a report on the district’s annual financial audit

Turner

Highlights:

  • Routine responsibilities of governance

Missouri

Liberty

Highlights:

    • Directed district administrators to form a committee to assist in renaming Liberty and South Valley Junior High Schools
    • Discussed whether to develop a nepotism policy
    • Considered revising the district’s policy governing the Board of Education’s “Roles, Standards, and Procedures”
