August School Board Reports — Week 5

Five local school boards met last week.

Shawnee Mission School District


  • Approving changes to the district policy governing acceptable use of the computer network and internet access and another governing public gifts and donations to schools.
  • Considering proposed changes to three other policies. One governs school-based child-care administration, and two others govern reports of child abuse and neglect.

Spring Hill School District


  • Hearing a preliminary enrollment report for the 2012-2013 school year. State funding is based on enrollment.
  • Scheduling public meetings to discuss school boundaries. The first meeting will take place at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Spring Hill Elementary School. And the second will take place at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10, at Prairie Creek Elementary School.


Center School District


  • Setting tuition rate

North Kansas City School District


  • Holding a public hearing to discuss this year’s proposed property tax rate in support of public schools.
  • Unanimously approving Superintendent Todd White’s recommendation that the rate stay the same as last year.
  • Approving this year’s budget with all voting in favor except for Dixie Youngers, who abstained.
  • Discussing the annual evaluation of Superintendent Todd White.

Belton School District


  • Holding a public hearing to discuss this year’s proposed property tax rate in support of public schools.
  • Hearing Superintendent Andrew Underwood’s report, including information on the district’s 2012 financial audit, an energy education agreement and tuition rates for the current school year.
