July School Board Reports — Week 4

Seven local school boards met last week.

Kansas

De Soto School District

Highlights:

  • Overseeing construction funded by school bonds approved by district voters.
  • Reviewing proposed budget for 2012-13 school year.
  • Announcement of public budget hearing scheduled for Monday, Aug. 13, at 6 p.m.
  • Overseeing contractor study of district enrollment and school boundaries, which should be complete this fall.

Shawnee Mission School District

Highlights:

  • Reviewing proposed budget for 2012-13 school year.
  • Announcement of public budget hearing scheduled for Monday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m.
  • Considering revisions of seven district policies: Graduation Requirements; Extracurricular Activity Eligibility; Student Rights and Responsibilities; Student Attendance Administrative Procedures; Public Concerns/Complaints About Instructional and Library Resources; Library Gifts/Donations to Schools; and Equal Opportunity/Discrimination.

Turner School District

Highlight: Considering revisions of nine district policies.

Missouri

Center School District

Highlights:

  • Announcement of residency verification clinics scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 1-2
  • Considering revising the district policy relating to Programs for English Language Learners

North Kansas City School District

Highlight: Considering revising two district policies: Board Member Conflict of Interest and Financial Disclosure; and Technology Usage.

Kansas City Public Schools

Highlights: Routine responsibilities of governance.

Park Hill School District

Highlights:

  • Swearing in of new board member Chris Seufert. He replaces Rick Turley, who resigned.
  • Considering revising the district policy relating to References for Current and Former District Employees. The Missouri General Assembly required this revision last year when it passed SB 54, the Amy Hestir Student Protection Act. The compliance deadline was July 1.
