Shawnee Mission School District’s Board of Education will meet Wednesday, May 30, at 7 p.m.

In addition to routine agenda items — such as reviewing bids for the annual elevator service contract and purchasing fruit smoothies — board members will hire school resource officers and consider changing district policies.

According to the consent agenda, Superintendent Gene Johnson is recommending approval of contracts with five law enforcement agencies. At the same cost as last year, these five will station full-time Security Resource Officers at all secondary schools. Law enforcement agencies contracting with the district are Johnson County, Lenexa, Overland Park, Prairie Village and Shawnee Mission.

Johnson is also proposing revisions of the following three policies:

  • Community and Other Use of School Facilities Administrative Procedures;
  • Public Conduct on School Property Trespass Notification; and
  • Agenda.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at the Howard D. McEachen Administrative Center; 7235 Antioch Road; Overland Park, KS 66204. Monday, June 11, is the date of the next regular scheduled school board meeting.
