Shawnee Mission School District’s Board of Education met Monday, May 14, at 7 p.m.
In addition to routine agenda items — such as approving worker’s compensation claims and purchasing musical instruments — board members considered changing district policies. Superintendent Gene Johnson proposed one revised policy and six new ones.
Proposed for revision was the “Agenda” policy. Johnson suggested that the board remove the following language: “A proposed agenda will be distributed to the news media and will be available to the public at the district office approximately 6 days in advance of the board meeting. The agenda for every board meeting will be distributed to board members, administrators, the news media and the public approximately 3 days in advance of the meeting.”
Six newly proposed district policies were:
- Political Advocacy by Employees
- Post-Issuance Compliance Policy for Bond Issues
- Tax-Exempt Financing Compliance Procedure
- List of Tax-Exempt Bonds Covered by This Compliance Procedure
- Sample Annual Compliance Checklist; and
- Definitions.
The meeting, which was open to the public, took place at the Howard D. McEachen Administrative Center; 7235 Antioch Road; Overland Park, KS 66204. A second monthly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 30.
