The Lansing School District’s Board of Education met Monday, Feb.13, at 7 p.m.
In addition to routine items on the agenda, such as paying the bills and overseeing personnel changes, board members had a full schedule last night.
One significant topic on the agenda was discussion of a possible new school bond issue. According to state law, Kansas will pay a percentage of bonds approved by voters. Districts can only use school bond funds for capital improvements such as building and renovation. These funds may not be used for operational expenses such as teacher salaries. However, state legislators in the current session are considering doing away with this funding source.
Also on the agenda was discussion of the possible need to increase property taxes in order to fund capital improvement projects.
Another item scheduled for discussion last night was a proposed new district personnel policy.
The Board of Education meeting took place at the District Office; 200 E. Mary; Lansing, KS 66043.
