The Shawnee Mission School District’s Board of Education met Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.
According to the agenda, the board was to consider hiring an architectural and engineering firm to oversee school building renovations during the summer break. In addition, the board was to consider hiring an investment banking firm to provide professional advice regarding school bonds.
Superintendent Gene Johnson recommended awarding a $27,000 architectural and engineering contract to Nevius Serig Palmer Architecture. The Overland Park-based firm would oversee improvements at four district school buildings.
For school bond advice, the superintendent recommended hiring George K. Baum & Company to assist with two general obligation bond refunding issues over the next five years. In a time of low interest rates, such transactions can help districts save money on long-term debt.
The Board of Education meeting took place at the Howard D. McEachen Administrative Center; 7235 Antioch Road; Overland Park, KS 66204.
