Filing is underway for any eligible citizens interested in serving as elected officials on the Board of Education for the Raymore-Peculiar School District.
The filing deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, and the election will take place Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
School board members are citizens who volunteer without pay to determine the policies the superintendent uses to administer the district. The superintendent works for them, and they are responsible for tasks such as long-range planning, establishing the salaries and benefits of certified teachers, approving the annual budget and calling elections for tax levies and bond proposals.
Names of candidates will appear on the ballot in order of filing.
Open Positions: Two three-year terms.
Where to File: Superintendent’s Offices; 21005 S. School Road; Peculiar, MO 64078.
Filing Schedule: Filing will take place during the district’s regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Filing will not occur on days the school district’s offices are closed due to inclement weather. Filing will also not occur on holidays when the district’s offices are closed, including Monday, Jan. 2, and Monday, Jan. 16, 2012.
Qualification:
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must be a resident taxpayer of the district
- Must be at least 24 years old
- Must have been a Missouri resident for one year preceding election or appointment
- Must have knowledge of and an interest in the welfare and educational opportunities of students.
