Filing is underway for any eligible citizens interested in serving as elected officials on the Board of Education for the Excelsior Springs School District.
The filing deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 17, and the election will take place Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
School board members are citizens who volunteer without pay to determine the policies the superintendent uses to administer the district. The superintendent works for them, and they are responsible for tasks such as long-range planning, establishing the salaries and benefits of certified teachers, approving the annual budget and calling elections for tax levies and bond proposals.
Names of candidates who submitted paperwork the day filing started will appear on the ballot in random order. All others will appear in order of filing.
Open Positions: Two three-year terms.
Where to File: District Offices; 300 W. Broadway, Excelsior Springs, Missouri 64024.
Filing Schedule: During the district’s regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Filing will end on January 17, 2012, at 5 p.m. The district’s office will be closed December 21, 2011 through January 2, 2012, as well as on January 16, 2012.
Qualification:
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must be a resident taxpayer of the district
- Must be at least twenty-four years old
- Must have been a Missouri resident for one year preceding election or appointment
- Must have knowledge of and an interest in the welfare and educational opportunities of students.
