Filing begins Tuesday, Dec. 20, for any eligible person interested in serving as an elected official on the Board of Education for the North Kansas City School District.
The filing deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 17, and the election will take place Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
School board members are citizens who volunteer without pay to determine the policies the superintendent uses to administer the district. The superintendent works for them, and they are responsible for tasks such as long-range planning, establishing the salaries and benefits of certified teachers, approving the annual budget and calling elections for tax levies and bond proposals.
Names will appear on the ballot in order of filing for each position.
Open Positions: Three three-year terms.
Where to File: Cummings Administrative Center; 2000 N.E. 46th Street; Kansas City, MO 64116.
Filing Schedule:
Filing will not occur on days that school district offices are closed due to inclement weather or when offices are closed for the winter break from December 21 at 11:30 a.m. through January 2. Additionally, candidates will not be able to file January 16, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, when district offices are closed.
Qualification:
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must be a resident taxpayer of the North Kansas City School District
- Must have resided in the state for one year preceding election or appointment
- Must be at least 24 years old
- Must have a knowledge of and an interest in the welfare and educational opportunities of students.
