Property owners who would like to know how much they will be paying in taxes to support the Excelsior Springs School District can attend a tax rate hearing the board of education has scheduled for next Monday evening.
During the hearing, the district treasurer should recommend to the board the amount of taxes to assess property owners for the 2011-2012 school year. The current board treasurer is Dr. David Lawrence, deputy superintendent of schools.
In support of his recommendation, Dr. Lawrence should provide a statistical report to the board. The report should include information about how much money will be required to support the district’s operating expenses as well as its debt service obligations. State law requires that the district file this report and set the tax rate no later than September 1.
The board has slated 15 minutes on its schedule for the hearing, which will take place at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8. This month’s regular school board meeting will begin at 7 p.m. following the hearing. Both events will take place in the board room of the Excelsior Springs School District’s Early Childhood Center, 113 Line St.
